Carol Storey, LCSW

I have worked for over 20 years as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with individuals (adults and adolescents), couples and families.  I graduated with a Master’s Degree in Social Work at the University of Utah in 1997.  I also earned a Graduate Certificate in Conflict Resolution from the U of U in 2008.

Therapy is an opportunity for a person to commit to a process of personal growth and change.  It is dependent on an interactive and committed relationship between therapist and client and requires a willingness to be open and confront parts of oneself that will most likely be resistant to change.  In my therapy work, I start where my client is emotionally, assessing the issues that he or she brings into therapy.  Therapy is a creative process.  It takes time to build a trusting relationship with your therapist in order to then work through and resolve those issues and problems.  Sometimes in only takes a few sessions, other situations require more sessions to identify the core problems and solutions.

Interventions are based on models of psychotherapy including psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral, and humanistic models.  Sometimes I will recommend the use of medication and will refer to a medical professional who can prescribe medications.

Treatment Specialities:  Mood disorders, anxiety disorders, trauma and PTSD, obsessive-compulsive disorders, couples counseling, domestic violence, high-conflict divorce and blended family challenges, bereavement, spiritual crisis, complications related to adoption.  I do adoption home studies and placement. I have expertise in schema therapy. I have also been trained in Parent Coordination, Collaborative Divorce, and have had AFCC (Association of Family and Conciliatory Courts) training to work with clients who are court involved, including family systems therapy, reunification therapy, and co-parent therapy for those involved in high-conflict divorce.

Fees and Insurance

I accept Regence BlueCross/Blue Shield, Aetna, and University Health Plans. Since this sometimes changes, contact your insurance company to verify if I am an in-network provider.  If I’m not on your plan, you can ask about out-of-network rates benefits and single-case agreements.

Insurance can only be billed for mental health therapy where there is a mental health diagnosis that is the focus of treatment.

Court ordered services such as Co-Parent Therapy, Reunification Therapy and Parent Coordination ARE NOT COVERED under insurance plans.  The hourly rate for court ordered services vary but require a $1500 retainer to begin services.  It’s important to know what the court order says.  Please check to see if I have availability to take a court-ordered case prior to having my name added to a court order.
